Day 8 of 9

A holy death and the grace of final perseverance

From the Novena to St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower)

Sacred Scripture: Psalm 23:4

Meditation for Day 8

Though she walked through the dark valley of spiritual trial in her final months, experiencing a night of faith in which consolation seemed stripped away, Therese never wavered in her confidence that God would be with her at the hour of death. On this eighth day we ask her to intercede for us so that, strengthened by the sacraments of the Church, we may face our own passing without fear, trusting in the mercy of the God who carries His children through the valley of the shadow of death.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Closing Prayer

O Lord, You have said: Unless you become as little children you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven; grant us, we beg You, so to follow, in humility and simplicity of heart, the footsteps of the Virgin blessed Therese, that we may attain to an everlasting reward. Amen.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
