Day 1 of 9

Trust in God's grace

From the Novena to St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower)

Sacred Scripture: Matthew 18:3

Meditation for Day 1

St. Therese learned from childhood to guard the gift of sanctifying grace above every earthly treasure, prizing it more than all the wealth of the world. On this first day we ask her intercession to preserve within us the life of God received at Baptism. As Jesus said, it is those who become like little children who enter the kingdom, and Therese modeled precisely this trusting, childlike abandonment. We begin this novena in her own spirit of confidence, approaching her with childlike confidence and deep humility.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Closing Prayer

O Lord, You have said: Unless you become as little children you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven; grant us, we beg You, so to follow, in humility and simplicity of heart, the footsteps of the Virgin blessed Therese, that we may attain to an everlasting reward. Amen.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
