Day 4 of 9

Abandonment to God's holy will

From the Novena to St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower)

Sacred Scripture: Luke 22:42

Meditation for Day 4

Perhaps no virtue was more central to Therese's Little Way than patient abandonment, echoing the Lord's words in Gethsemane: not my will but Yours be done. She bore years of spiritual dryness, the anguish of her father's mental illness, and her own painful death by tuberculosis, all in union with Christ's surrender. On this fourth day, the Little Flower of Carmel who bore so patiently every disappointment and delay stands ready to intercede for us, that our wills may be conformed to God's in all the trials of daily life.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Closing Prayer

O Lord, You have said: Unless you become as little children you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven; grant us, we beg You, so to follow, in humility and simplicity of heart, the footsteps of the Virgin blessed Therese, that we may attain to an everlasting reward. Amen.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
