Day 9 of 9

The Peace of Christ

From the St. Dymphna Novena

Sacred Scripture: John 14:27

Meditation for Day 9

'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you,' says the Lord (John 14:27) — not the fragile calm of the world, but a peace that can hold even an anxious heart. This is the gift Saint Dymphna's clients have sought for centuries.

On this final day, ask through her intercession that the peace of Christ would guard your heart and mind, and the hearts and minds of all who suffer.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Philippians 4:6-7

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Saint Paul's words on peace amid anxiety (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
