Martyr for Christ
From the St. Dymphna Novena
Sacred Scripture: Matthew 5:8
Meditation for Day 5
Around the year 620, tradition recounts, Dymphna was killed by her own father in defense of her purity and her faith. The Irish remembered her as the 'Lily of Éire,' a martyr scarcely more than a girl.
Ask Saint Dymphna, who kept faith to the end, to obtain courage for those who feel overwhelmed by their burdens.
Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)
Philippians 4:6-7
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Saint Paul's words on peace amid anxiety (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.
Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
