Day 7 of 9

For the Anxious and Afflicted in Mind

From the St. Dymphna Novena

Sacred Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7

Meditation for Day 7

Saint Paul urges, 'Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition... make your requests known to God' (Philippians 4:6). This is the heart of devotion to Saint Dymphna, patroness of the anxious and the mentally afflicted.

Today, name before God your own anxiety, or that of the person you carry in prayer, and ask through Saint Dymphna for the peace that surpasses understanding.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Philippians 4:6-7

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Saint Paul's words on peace amid anxiety (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
