Day 8 of 9

For Families and Caregivers

From the St. Dymphna Novena

Sacred Scripture: Galatians 6:2

Meditation for Day 8

Saint Dymphna is honored not only as patroness of the suffering but of those who care for them — families, doctors, nurses, and mental-health professionals who 'bear one another's burdens.'

Pray today for all who care for the mentally ill, that they may be sustained in patience and compassion, and never lose hope.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Philippians 4:6-7

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Saint Paul's words on peace amid anxiety (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
