Healing at Geel

From the St. Dymphna Novena

Sacred Scripture: Matthew 11:28

Meditation for Day 6

From early times, many reported healings of mental and nervous afflictions at Dymphna's resting place in Geel. A church was raised there in 1349, and a renowned community of care for the mentally ill grew up around it that still bears her name — one of the oldest such works of mercy in the world.

Bring to Saint Dymphna, through whom God has shown such mercy, the person whose mind and heart are in need of healing.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Philippians 4:6-7

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Saint Paul's words on peace amid anxiety (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
