Total consecration to the Sacred Heart
From the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Scripture: Galatians 2:20
Meditation for Day 9
The ninth day closes the novena with a personal act of consecration to the Sacred Heart. Pope Leo XIII consecrated the entire human race to the Heart of Christ on June 11, 1899; the personal consecration imitates this on the scale of one soul.
The Apostle Paul wrote: 'I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.' The closing prayer asks that the disciple's heart be conformed entirely to the Heart of the Master.
Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)
Daily Closing Prayer — Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I consecrate to you my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring, and glorifying you. This is my unchangeable will: to belong entirely to you and to do all things for the love of you. I renounce with all my heart whatever is displeasing to you. Amen.
Pope Leo XIII consecrated the entire human race to the Sacred Heart on June 11, 1899, in the encyclical Annum Sacrum.
Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
