The love of the Heart of Christ for the Father
From the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Scripture: John 14:31
Meditation for Day 1
The first day of the novena meditates on the love that the Heart of Christ bears for his Father. Jesus said: 'I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father.' This love is the source from which all other graces flow.
Pope Pius XII teaches in Haurietis Aquas that the Sacred Heart 'must be considered the chief sign and symbol of that three-fold love with which the divine Redeemer continually loves' — his eternal love as God, his deepest love as Word made flesh, and his sensible human love.
Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)
Daily Closing Prayer — Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I consecrate to you my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring, and glorifying you. This is my unchangeable will: to belong entirely to you and to do all things for the love of you. I renounce with all my heart whatever is displeasing to you. Amen.
Pope Leo XIII consecrated the entire human race to the Sacred Heart on June 11, 1899, in the encyclical Annum Sacrum.
Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
