Day 6 of 9

The promises of the Sacred Heart

From the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Sacred Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30

Meditation for Day 6

The sixth day recalls the twelve promises that Jesus made to St. Margaret Mary for those who would honour and propagate the devotion to his Sacred Heart. The promises include peace in their families, blessing on every undertaking, refuge in life and especially at the hour of death, and a fount of mercy poured out on every sinner who turns to him.

Today's prayer is for confidence in these promises and for the grace to make the Heart of Christ known to others.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Daily Closing Prayer — Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I consecrate to you my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring, and glorifying you. This is my unchangeable will: to belong entirely to you and to do all things for the love of you. I renounce with all my heart whatever is displeasing to you. Amen.

Pope Leo XIII consecrated the entire human race to the Sacred Heart on June 11, 1899, in the encyclical Annum Sacrum.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
