Day 5 of 9

For a spirit of charity and love for those in need

From the Novena to St. Anthony of Padua

Sacred Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:13

Meditation for Day 5

Anthony is acclaimed as a seraph of divine love, a man in whom charity burned so brightly that he spent himself entirely for others, defending the poor and rebuking the powerful in the name of justice. St. Paul reminds us that of faith, hope, and charity, the greatest is love. Today we ask St. Anthony to obtain for us a heart enlarged by charity, one willing to see Christ in every person who suffers or is in want.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Closing Prayer

O God, may the votive commemoration of blessed Anthony, your confessor, be a source of joy to your Church, that she may always be fortified with spiritual assistance, and deserve to enjoy eternal rewards. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Saint Anthony, pray for us!

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
