Day 3 of 9

For purity of heart and holy virtue

From the Novena to St. Anthony of Padua

Sacred Scripture: Matthew 5:8

Meditation for Day 3

St. Anthony is honoured as a model of angelic purity, a man whose interior life was so transparent to God that the Divine Child chose to rest in his arms. Our Lord taught in the Beatitudes that the pure of heart shall see God, and Anthony's life is the fruit of that promise. Today we ask his intercession for the grace of a clean heart, asking him to present our desire for holiness to the Immaculate Virgin Mary and to Jesus, whom he held so tenderly.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Closing Prayer

O God, may the votive commemoration of blessed Anthony, your confessor, be a source of joy to your Church, that she may always be fortified with spiritual assistance, and deserve to enjoy eternal rewards. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Saint Anthony, pray for us!

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
