For the grace to call on Mary's name in every temptation
From the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Sacred Scripture: Proverbs 18:10
Meditation for Day 3
Scripture tells us that 'the name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.' The Redemptorist tradition teaches that Mary's name, too, is 'the help of the living and the salvation of the dying,' for it leads us always to Jesus. Saint Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Redemptorists, wrote that those who invoke Mary's name with faith will find in it a shield against temptation and a consolation in affliction. On this third day, ask for the habit of calling on her name at every moment of trial.Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)
Closing Prayer
Mother of Perpetual Help, you have been blessed and favoured by God. You became not only the Mother of the Redeemer, but Mother of the redeemed as well. We come to you today as your loving children. Watch over us and take care of us. As you held the Child Jesus in your loving arms, so take us in your arms. Be a mother ready at every moment to help us. For God who is mighty has done great things for you, and God's mercy is from age to age on those who love God. Intercede for us, dear Mother, in obtaining pardon for our sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance, and the grace always to call upon you, Mother of Perpetual Help.
Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
