A Holy Death
From the St. Gerard Majella Novena
Sacred Scripture: Philippians 1:21
Meditation for Day 8
Gerard's earthly life was brief. Worn out by penance and illness, he died in 1755 at the age of twenty-nine, having asked only to do God's will. A small sign on his door read simply that here the will of God was done.
Ask Saint Gerard for the grace to entrust the outcome of your intention to God's will, in peace, whatever it may be.
Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)
Psalm 139:13-14
You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother's womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.
This psalm of the child knit together in the womb (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.
Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
