Day 4 of 9

Charity to the Poor and the Sick

From the St. Gerard Majella Novena

Sacred Scripture: Matthew 25:40

Meditation for Day 4

Wherever the poor and the sick called for him, Gerard came. Among the wonders reported of him, he is said to have multiplied bread for the hungry and to have provided for poor families in their need.

Bring to Saint Gerard the material needs of your household, asking him to obtain God's provision for those you love.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Psalm 139:13-14

You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother's womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.

This psalm of the child knit together in the womb (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
