Day 5 of 9

A Reader of Hearts

From the St. Gerard Majella Novena

Sacred Scripture: Psalm 139:1-2

Meditation for Day 5

Gerard was given an extraordinary gift of reading consciences, and was trusted to counsel even communities of religious women toward holiness. He saw what was hidden in souls and led them gently to God.

Ask Saint Gerard to carry to God the hidden burdens of your heart — the fears and hopes you can scarcely put into words.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Psalm 139:13-14

You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother's womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.

This psalm of the child knit together in the womb (New American Bible) may be prayed as the daily closing of the novena.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
