Day 9 of 9

The lukewarm souls

From the Divine Mercy Novena

Sacred Scripture: Revelation 3:15-16

Meditation for Day 9

On the ninth and final day, Jesus asked that the lukewarm souls be brought to his mercy — those whose faith has grown cool, whose love has faded into routine, whose prayer life has dried up. Of these, he said in the book of Revelation that he would prefer them to be either hot or cold rather than lukewarm.

The novena ends here intentionally: with the souls who most resemble the disciples on the road to Emmaus before their hearts began to burn within them. Today's prayer asks the Lord, on the eve of Divine Mercy Sunday, to rekindle their love.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

St. Faustina taught that the Chaplet of Divine Mercy should accompany the novena each day. The full chaplet uses ordinary Rosary beads.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
