All mankind, especially sinners
From the Divine Mercy Novena
Sacred Scripture: 1 Timothy 1:15
Meditation for Day 1
On the first day Jesus asked St. Faustina to bring to him all mankind, especially all sinners, and to immerse them in the ocean of his mercy. This intention recalls St. Paul's confession that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — and that he himself is the first of them.
The Church teaches that Christ desires every person to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). The novena begins by embracing the widest possible circle: every human being, without exception, whom God's mercy seeks.
Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
St. Faustina taught that the Chaplet of Divine Mercy should accompany the novena each day. The full chaplet uses ordinary Rosary beads.
Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
