Meditation for Day 9

On this final day we unite all our prayers for the holy souls and beg God to open wide the gates of heaven for them. The Book of Revelation proclaims the promise awaiting every purified soul: He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away (Rev 21:4). The holy souls are the Church's hidden treasure — close to God, certain of salvation, and powerfully interceding for us. As we close this novena, we ask them to pray for us in return, and we entrust all our beloved dead to the mercy and love of God.

O God, the author of mercy, the lover of the salvation of mankind; we address thy clemency, in behalf of our brethren, relations, and benefactors, who are departed this life, that by the intercession of blessed Mary, ever virgin, and of all the saints, thou wouldst receive them into the enjoyment of eternal happiness; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
