Day 6 of 9

For souls who were ungrateful for the love of Christ and His Passion

From the Novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Sacred Scripture: John 6:54

Meditation for Day 6

Among the keenest regrets of the holy souls is the remembrance of how little they prized the Eucharist and the graces flowing from the Cross during their earthly lives. Our Lord promised: Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day (Jn 6:54) — yet how often souls received Him with distracted hearts or cold devotion. In Purgatory, the memory of squandered graces becomes itself a purifying fire. We pray today for those who died with such regrets, and we resolve to approach the Eucharist with deeper reverence in the days remaining to us.

Daily Novena Prayer (recited every day)

Closing Prayer

O God, the author of mercy, the lover of the salvation of mankind; we address thy clemency, in behalf of our brethren, relations, and benefactors, who are departed this life, that by the intercession of blessed Mary, ever virgin, and of all the saints, thou wouldst receive them into the enjoyment of eternal happiness; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Concluding prayers: Many novena traditions add one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be at the close of each day's prayer.
