About St. Peter Claver
Founded on January 30, 1888, St. Peter Claver Parish at 1439 S. 12th Street in Sheboygan was the city’s second Catholic parish, organized to serve Catholics living south of the Sheboygan River. It is the only parish in Wisconsin named for St. Peter Claver, the Spanish Jesuit missionary canonized that same month by Pope Leo XIII. The first Mass was offered on September 30, 1888, and a larger church seating 800 — with stained-glass windows and large bells — opened in 1908. The parish marked its centennial in 1987–88 and today, part of the Sheboygan South Catholic Parishes, continues to thrive in a spirit of unity, service, and devotion.
