About Ss. Cyril and Methodius
SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish — “The Church on the Hill” at 822 New Jersey Avenue in Sheboygan — was founded in 1910 by Croatian and Slovenian immigrants who came seeking to worship in their native language. The cornerstone was laid on September 18, 1910, and the first Mass was celebrated on Palm Sunday, April 9, 1911; bells cast in Ljubljana were blessed by Archbishop Sebastian Messmer in 1913 before a crowd of 800. The parish celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010. Today, as part of the Sheboygan South Catholic Parishes, it remains a vibrant community rooted in the faith and cultural heritage of its founders.
