About Five Wounds

Founded in 1914 to serve East San José's Portuguese Catholic immigrants, Five Wounds Portuguese National Parish in the Diocese of San Jose is one of California's most architecturally distinctive churches: its 1918 building incorporates salvaged materials from the Pavilion of Portugal at San Francisco's 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition, with interior murals, six side altars, and stained-glass windows reflecting the parish's Lusophone heritage. Daily Mass is offered in English and Portuguese, and Lenten Processions of the Steps of the Lord's Passion continue the parish's century-old traditions.
