About Sacred Heart Church

Tracing its roots to 1883, Sacred Heart in Alturas is one of the oldest Catholic parishes in California's remote Modoc County, with a Centennial History documenting over 140 years of faith in the high desert. Under the pastoral care of Fr. Martin Ramat, the parish celebrates weekday noon Masses Tuesday through Friday, a bilingual Mass on the fourth Sunday of the month, and also shepherds St. James Mission in Cedarville — keeping the sacraments alive across a vast, sparsely populated corner of the Diocese of Sacramento.
