Built from local limestone in 1855 in pure Gothic style — featuring graceful arches, clustered columns, and a spacious choir loft — Ss. Peter and Paul in Alton, Illinois served as the seat of a bishop and remains one of the most historically significant Catholic churches in the Diocese of Springfield. Two bishops rest in a crypt beneath the church, whose interior was beautifully restored in 2022. Under the pastoral care of Fr. Jeff Holtman O.F.S., the parish celebrates weekday Masses, a Saturday vigil, and multiple Sunday Masses.
