St. Mary Catholic Church, Newport, in Charlotte Hall is one of the oldest parishes in the country, founded in 1674 by Franciscan priests and later entrusted to the Jesuits before joining the Archdiocese of Washington. Its 1840 Greek Revival former church is among Charles County's oldest standing buildings and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The present church offers daily morning Mass, a Saturday evening Mass, and two Sunday morning liturgies.
