Prayers for the Sick

Praying for someone else's illness is one of the oldest works of Christian charity. The Memorare — St. Bernard's confident appeal to Mary — is the classic prayer to say on another's behalf, and Lourdes is where the Church brings its sick.

Traditional prayers

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

3The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth: and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

4The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow: thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness.
