Founded in 1919 as the "Russian Greek Catholic Church of Avella," St. John the Baptist in Cross Creek Township is a Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic parish within the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh. The current church building was dedicated in 1962, and the congregation celebrates the Divine Liturgy on Sunday mornings and Wednesday.
