St. Benedict the Moor

St. Benedict the Moor Church on Martin Luther King Avenue in St. Augustine, Florida is named for the 16th-century Afro-Sicilian Franciscan friar who became a patron saint of African Americans — one of roughly seven historically Black Catholic parishes across the country bearing his name. Affiliated with the Cathedral Parish of the Diocese of St. Augustine, the church gathers its congregation for an 8:00 AM Sunday Mass in the nation's oldest continuously occupied European settlement.
