About St. Benedict the African

St. Benedict the African Parish in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood is a vibrant Black Catholic community within the Archdiocese of Chicago. The parish grew out of nearly a decade of discernment in the 1980s about Catholic presence in the area and has become a spiritual home where African American culture is woven into worship through gospel music and sacred art reflecting Black spirituality. Community outreach extends beyond the sanctuary to food assistance and domestic violence support services.
