Founded in 1791 as St. Patrick Church, this historic Black Catholic parish in downtown Norfolk holds the distinction of being the oldest in the Diocese of Richmond and is known as "the Mother Church of Tidewater Virginia." Its Late Gothic Revival brick church, completed in 1858, was elevated to a minor basilica in 1991 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places; it offers Sunday Masses at 9 a.m. and noon, daily noon Mass, and a Saturday vigil.
