The Chapel of St. Ignatius on the campus of Seattle University is a landmark of contemporary sacred architecture, designed by Steven Holl and completed in 1997. Holl described the concept as "seven bottles of light in a stone box" — colored glass lenses and baffles cast shifting beams of light through the interior, a design honored with an AIA Twenty-five Year Award and a scale model in MoMA's permanent collection. The Jesuit university chapel hosts Sunday Masses at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and a weekday noon Mass Monday through Friday, anchoring faith life at Seattle University within the Archdiocese of Seattle.
