The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, mother church of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, rises along Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Center City. Construction began in 1846 under Bishop Francis Patrick Kenrick and was completed in 1864; the basilica houses the Shrine of St. Katharine Drexel and hosts daily Mass twice each weekday alongside five Sunday Masses — including a Spanish-language celebration — welcoming both parishioners and visitors under the rectorship of Father Dennis Gill.
