Founded in 1821, the Basilica of Saint Peter on Assembly Street is the mother church of the Diocese of Charleston and one of South Carolina's oldest Catholic parishes. Under Rector Canon Gary S. Linsky, the basilica hosts four Sunday Masses—including a 1 p.m. Spanish Mass serving its active Ministerio Hispano—along with daily midday Mass, a Thursday evening Spanish Mass, and more than 25 parish ministries. Saint Peter's Catholic School operates in connection with the parish.
