One of the oldest Catholic churches in Delaware, the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Wilmington traces its origins to 1816 and was formally dedicated by Father Patrick Kenny in 1818. It became the mother church of the Diocese of Wilmington in 1905 and is adorned with frescoes, stained-glass windows, and marble altars added during an extensive 1870–1905 renovation. A remarkable 1991 restoration raised twenty tons of the cathedral structure hydraulically to install modern supports. Weekday noon Mass is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
