Established in 1851 and one of the oldest Catholic congregations in Florida, the Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea anchors Catholic life at the southernmost tip of the continental United States. The current church, completed in 1905 and designed by Jesuit Brother Cornelius Otten, features a beloved stained-glass window of Mary as Star of the Sea and a 24-hour Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Five Sunday Masses, a Saturday vigil, and outreach through the Martha Ministry soup kitchen serve both the Key West community and its many visitors within the Archdiocese of Miami.
