Founded in 1782 by Franciscan missionaries, San Buenaventura Mission — known as "the Mission by the Sea" — is one of California's historic Spanish missions and a living parish of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The community of over 700 parishioners gathers for daily Mass, a full Sunday schedule with English and Spanish Masses, and First Friday evening liturgies, all within the landmark mission church on East Main Street in Ventura. The parish's archival center preserves records of local Chumash history and the Junipero Serra era.
