One of northeast Indiana's oldest Catholic communities, St. Mary of the Assumption was founded in 1853 by missionary priests and grew under Father Dominick Duehmig's 37-year pastorate into the "Mother Church" of the surrounding area. The parish church was dedicated in 1878 and the attached school—now in its 170th year—ranks in the top quartile statewide. Two Sunday Masses and a Saturday morning and vigil serve this enduring Noble County community within the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
