One of the oldest Catholic parishes in North Carolina, Mother of Mercy in Washington was established on June 4, 1821, when Bishop John England organized the Catholic community there — making it a bicentennial parish with deep roots in the Diocese of Raleigh. Today it serves a vibrant bilingual congregation, offering three Sunday Masses in English as well as a Spanish noon Mass and midweek Spanish evening Masses, reflecting the diverse faith community it has grown to embrace.
