About St. Wenceslaus

St. Wenceslaus in Tabor, South Dakota was established in 1871 by Czech Bohemian immigrants and named for the patron saint of the Czech people. The 1898 red-brick Gothic Revival church — listed on the National Register of Historic Places — features a quartzite foundation, pointed arch windows, an elaborately carved altar, and stained glass inscribed with biblical passages in Czech, a language in which services were held until the 1960s. It remains the only Catholic church in Tabor and a touchstone of the region's Czech heritage.
