One of only three basilicas in Illinois, Our Lady of Sorrows on Chicago's West Side was founded in 1874 and entrusted to the Servite Fathers, who built its soaring Italian Renaissance church — dedicated in 1902 — as a national center of devotion to the Sorrowful Mother. Today it houses the National Shrine of Saint Peregrine and hosts monthly healing Masses in both Spanish and English, continuing its tradition of serving a diverse urban congregation in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
