About Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church

Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, holds the distinction of being the first Byzantine-Ruthenian Catholic parish in Southeastern Virginia, receiving canonical status in 1988 after its first Divine Liturgy at Fort Monroe in 1984. Led by the Very Reverend Father Alex Shuter and part of the Eparchy of Passaic, the parish has grown from a small ethnic Eastern European community into a welcoming home for all drawn to the Catholic traditions of the Christian East, celebrating the Divine Liturgy in English on Sundays and three mornings each week.
