Our Lady of Seven Sorrows in Kaunakakai, Molokai, is one of only two surviving churches built by Blessed Father Damien of Molokai, originally constructed in 1874 at Kalua'aha on the island's east side. The rebuilt structure retains Damien's original Gothic-windowed design — 44 feet long with a 50-foot tower — and a large wooden cross facing the ocean anchors the parish's beloved annual Easter Sunrise Mass. Served by Fr. Patrick Fanning, SS.CC., this small community within the Diocese of Honolulu carries the spiritual legacy of Damien's ministry to the island's scattered Catholic families.
