About Assumption

The Cathedral of the Assumption, founded in 1852 at the heart of downtown Louisville, is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Louisville and a landmark of Neo-Gothic splendor — hand-painted arched windows, ornate carved ceiling bosses, and a 42-rank Steiner-Reck tracker organ fill the nave. Under the leadership of the Very Rev. Fred Klotter, the cathedral celebrates daily noon Mass, runs a Parish Twinning Project with Haiti, and operates the Sandefur Dining Hall's Daily Lunch Program, feeding thousands of Louisvillians each year.
