Built in 1855 at the height of the Know Nothing era as a testament of Bangor's Irish immigrant community, St. John's Catholic Church on York Street is a landmark Gothic Revival structure designed by renowned Irish-American architect Patrick C. Keely and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. Today it serves as a worship site within St. Paul the Apostle Parish (Diocese of Portland), offering four Sunday Masses and daily morning and evening liturgies throughout the week.
