About Old St. Mary

Built in 1763 as the second Catholic church in Philadelphia, Old St. Mary holds an extraordinary place in American Catholic history: it served as the first Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1810 to 1838, and Continental Congress members attended Mass here on four occasions during the Revolutionary War, with George Washington worshipping here at least twice. Today the parish continues its sacramental life with daily 7:30 a.m. Mass and a Sunday morning celebration at 10:00 a.m.
