About Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church

Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Jerome, Pennsylvania, was founded on July 4, 1913, by Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants who came to work the Somerset County coal mines. The original church was destroyed by fire on New Year's Day 1935 but was rebuilt within a year through the determined effort of parishioners and ecumenical neighbors. Today the community belongs to the Byzantine Ruthenian Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and gathers every second Sunday for the Divine Liturgy, with the church's interior graced by an icon screen and Byzantine décor installed in 1985.
