Founded in 1882 as a mission chapel on Bayou Lafourche and raised to a canonical parish in 1911, St. Jules takes its name from patron Father Canon Jules Bouchet. The current 1952 brick church on the west bank still displays the original stained-glass windows and pews from the first chapel. Clustered with St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Paincourtville, the two congregations share Sunday morning and weekday evening Masses under the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
