Saint Joseph Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Scranton, Pennsylvania is celebrating 129 years in 2026 — founded in the late 1890s by Lebanese immigrants and today one of the three oldest parishes in the Melkite Eparchy of Newton. "Catholic but not Roman, Byzantine in Tradition," the community draws worshippers across northeastern Pennsylvania with the ancient Divine Liturgy, Wednesday Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, Friday Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos, and a beloved annual Lebanese food festival.
